Mike, a Fort Lauderdale resident since 1972, quit his “Day Job” as a computer geek with NCR in 1980 to pursue a career photographing yachts and producing sales and charter brochures. *

With close to 2,000 photo-shoots and over 900 brochures in print, he is one of the most prolific photographers in the marine industry. His work has appeared in and on most major marine publications.

* Prior to the mid 1970s, most US charter operations consisted of owner/operator sailboats alternating between New England and the Caribbean. Then the US tax laws were amended to allow vessels used for charter to be considered a business and therefore privy to the same tax-breaks and write-offs allowed any business. This being the case, you could now purchase a “charter business” with pre-tax dollars and write-off the operating expenses! All of a sudden most everything that floated became a charter vessel; however you did have to show charter revenue to qualify for the tax advantages.

Mike reasoned that this new market full of charter yachts would need marketing materials if they were to attract business and be seen as legitimate enterprises, thus a unique career was born.
